SHRM announced its partnership with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) by signing a Statement of Support at SHRM’s 2010 Employment Law and Legislative Conference.
Through this partnership, SHRM is working with ESGR to link all state councils and chapters with their local ESGR office and encourage SHRM members to sign their own Statements of Support.
As the principal advocate within the U.S. Department of Defense, ESGR’s mission is to
develop and promote employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing employers that offer outstanding support, increasing awareness of applicable laws, and resolving conflict between employers and service members.
ESGR’s website, www.esgr.org, has employer resources and information on signing statements of support.
SHRM has been working closely with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) to provide SHRM members with the tools they need to recognize the value of hiring veterans and ways to find qualified veteran job candidates. In addition to providing opportunities for SHRM members to hear directly from the VETS organization at SHRM conferences, we are working with VETS to develop resources specifically designed to help HR connect more easily with veterans seeking jobs in the civilian workforce.
VETS’s website, www.dol.gov/vets, contains important information on the value of hiring a veteran and will continue to add employer resources as they are developed.
