Can I share my membership number with other people?No. SHRM is an individual membership organization and use by any non-SHRM member is a violation of the SHRM membership policy.
Can I update my mailing address and contact information online?Yes, you can! Visit
www.shrm.org/memberrecord to update your information or renew online.
When does my membership expire?Twelve (12) months from the end of the month in which your membership was processed. Example: If your membership is processed on 9/7/2007, then your membership will expire on 9/30/2008.

Can any member contact an HR Advisor in the HR Knowledge Center for assistance with HR-related questions?
Any member with professional, general, associate or global status may contact an HR Advisor via phone, instant message or e-mail from
www.shrm.org/hrinfo. This service is not offered as part of student membership, however, students may search the various sections of the online HR Knowledge Center or any member-protected pages of the SHRM website to conduct their own research.
What if I find myself unemployed when it's time to renew?The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) provides active members who are unemployed at the time of their membership renewal, a one time opportunity to extend their membership for an additional year—FREE. For further information visit

My company paid my membership. What happens if I leave jobs?SHRM membership is individual, so your membership follows you. Please make sure to keep your contact information current, especially when leaving jobs!

Am I a SHRM member if I joined my local SHRM chapter?No. As a SHRM Chapter member you are entitled only to benefits offered by your local chapter. As a national SHRM member, you'll have full access to SHRM Online, the Knowldege Center, Free Subscriptions to
HR Magazine, access to HR research, discounts on SHRM education, and networking opportunities with more than 225,000 SHRM National, Student and International members.
Does SHRM offer membership partnerships with other organizations?SHRM only has one partner organization in which the dues payments are combined- ASHHRA, the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration. If you are interested, you should contact
ASHHRA or call (312) 422-3725 to request a joint application or invoice.
How do I request what e-mails I do or don’t want to receive?SHRM tries to send each member information that could be relevant to them based on the member profile demographic information that we receive. (Please visit
www.shrm.org/memberrecord to update your member profile) However, you know best what is of the most interest to you. At the bottom of every e-mail, there is a statement that says "This message was sent to <your email address>. If you wish to stop emails of this type, click unsubscribe. If you wish to stop all commercial email, follow this link to your Subscription Management Page." From the Subscription management page you can also choose exactly which emails you want to receive. Please note that the HR Disciplines area e-newsletters are opt-in, available on each area's page (
www.shrm.org/hrdiciplines) but other emails from SHRM are opt-out.

Will my local chapter contact me or should I contact them for information about joining?Your local chapter does reach out to new SHRM members throughout the year, but we encourage you to contact them and find out what local events and resources could be of use to you sooner than later. How do I become an officer in my local chapter?It depends on the chapter. Some require years of membership in that local chapter, whereas others are looking for fresh assistance on its committees and planning boards. Contact your local chapter to find out.

HR Magazine the following month. If your membership is processed after the 8th, it will take an additional month. Example: If you join September 7, you will receive the October issue, but if you join September 9 or later, you would receive the November issue. You will have access to current feature articles online at all times.
Where can I find information about conferences and seminars?Information about SHRM’s annual conferences at
www.shrm.org/conferences and information on shorter educational seminars, certification preparation courses and e-learning can be found at
www.shrm.org/education.
Where can I find White Papers?You can find SHRM White Papers, toolkits and other resources by accessing

Does SHRM offer Legal Advice?No. SHRM provides information, research, guidance and best practices, but does not offer specific legal advice. Please consult your company’s legal counsel for any topic that you would want to talk to a lawyer about.
